Blood Magic

“Hey, sweets. What’re you doing? You know you don’t have to do that. We have a staff for a reason.” Alaric smiles at me from the doorway, watching me arrange a vase of flowers on the dining room table. I’m basically the only one who ever uses it, and even after a month of living with the Blaze Clan, I still can’t get used to having others serve me. I’ve always used my magic before this. Now, I feel more independent and less needy when I do things myself and the mortal way.

I set the vase in the middle of the table and smile. “If I let your staff do everything for me, then what am I supposed to do with myself?”

Moving at vampire speed, Alaric materializes beside me and lifts me off my feet, setting my ass onto the table. I don’t know if it’s because I feed him and his clan my blood, but the three of them have been incredibly affectionate to me ever since the moment they first bit me. Not that I’m complaining. I never thought I would like it so much, and with a vampire. The High Council has it all wrong with their thoughts about the vampire clans. They wouldn’t destroy Magaelorum if given the proper power. It pisses me off that I even bought into it.

“I can think of a couple of ideas,” Alaric murmurs, tucking my hair behind my ear. “Your company is always appreciated with us, you know. You’re not simply here as a blood source.”

I purse my lips and twist my mouth to the side. “Is that so?” Not that they’ve ever made me feel as much, but I can’t help thinking about what would’ve happened had I not offered my blood in exchange for protection and a place to live.

“How can I convince you? I know it might’ve started like that at first, Isobel...” My name sounds so incredibly sexy on his lips that I dart my attention to his mouth, studying the fullness of his lips.

“But you’re fucking an incredible woman, and we want you to know that.” Dane grins at me from beside Nico as the two of them hover in the archway. Winking at me, Dane wiggles his fingers. “My brother seems to be a bit tongue-tied around you. That was painful to watch.”

Alaric growls deep in his throat, whipping his attention toward Dane. The cute bastard loves testing his clan mates, purposely pushing them for his enjoyment. I know I shouldn’t laugh, but I can’t help it. I can already sense the start of a wrestling match as Nico locks his fingers to Dane’s hair and Alaric abandons the spot in front of me.

I release a soft whistle and bounce in my spot on the table. “If you’re going to wrestle, at least take off your shirts and provide some proper entertainment,” I tease, unable to resist my playfulness.

The three of them stop in surprise and turn toward me, devouring me with their intense gazes.
